The Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus had its own official opening last Tuesday, May 15th.

Although the school has been already working for 8 months, the ceremony was put off until later this year. They said that the major reason for this was to have a chance “to make the school their own.”

First to cut the official ribbon was the school vice-principal Irfan Toor, the grade 10 student and co-president of the student council Connor Laleff and the school’s Timberwolf mascot.

After the ribbon ceremony, students took part in a prep rally, a barbecue lunch and much more.

Students also displayed their spirit by wearing the red and white colors of the school, facepaint and tattoos with the school’s logo.

Here are some informative facts about Lorne Park:

- Lorne Park is a small suburban residential neighborhood located in southwestern Mississauga, Ontario.

- This small area received its name from the Governor-General, the Marquis of Lorne and over the early part of the 20th century, it become popular as a cottage community and an amusement park, as visitors from Toronto arrived to the place by train or steamer.

- Lorne Park eventually became a settled residential community and the area once occupied by the amusement park is now Lorne Park Estates.

- In 1887, Joseph Thompson bought 86 acres of land in Lorne Park which became known as Thompson’s Wood (nowadays known as Jack Darling Park).

- The Lorne Park Mission Hall was built in 1902.

- The first library in Lorne Park was opened in 1903.

- The first public school in Lorne Park was opened in 1923 with 76 students enrolled. The original school was later in 1892 destroyed by a fire and rebuilt again. Today, it serves students grades 1 through 5.

- Lorne Park’s secondary school was founded in 1958 and receives 1500 students in grades 9 through 12. This school is famous for its academic and artistic excellence but most of all, it is truly known as having one of the top related athletic programs in the nation. The school has a variety of athletic programs such as football, men’s rugby, women’s lacrosse and women’s field hockey.

- Lorne Park is also famous for the Lorne Park Hockey Association which was founded in 1944 and functions perfectly and prides on its achievements that have enriched the association and fulfilled its objectives.

All Orillia residents that love playing tennis will surely be happy to hear that the half-ruined tennis courts in the Strike Kitchener Park are set to go through a major reconstruction during the summer days. The entire reconstruction is estimated to cost more than $200,000.

The renewing process is scheduled to begin June 11 and expected to end in the middle of August.

In the meantime, tennis players can use the newly constructed courts at the West Ridge Sports Complex.

Parks and recreation director Ray Merkley said that in order to meet the local demand, they need to have at least six or eight courts. With the reconstruction, there will be six courts in perfect condition.

The existing courts at Kitchener Park are in a very poor state due to the uneven surfaces caused by settling and inadequate drainage. Previously, the council approved $245,000 for development work at the park in 2012 which included two tennis courts.

Of the total sum of money, $35,000 were used for consultant fees and minor improvements to horseshoe pits and the rest of the money were left for the courts. For completing the project according to the plan, the staff recommends the council to approve additional $18,000.

The new courts will have acrylic coating and some of the granular material beneath the existing courts will be reused for the base to keep costs lower.

Ottavio Ciccarelli and Son Contracting Ltd. submitted the tender for the work at a cost of $216,851.

I have made my way into Nadene & Kristina’s blog, with the thought of showing you all exactly what these two ladies

I have made my way into Nadene & Kristina’s blog, with the thought of showing you all exactly what these two ladies do to help their clients. I’m sure all of you have hired a Realtor at some point in your life, and I would almost guarantee most you did not have a pleasant experience?

I work with Nadene & Kristina often, and I do not understand why they do not promote the great things they do for their clients when it comes to preparing their home to sell. I know these ladies are not the type to say “hey, look at me…. or hey, look what we did”. They often just do things behind the scene’s and hope that their clients will spread the word through referrals.

WELL, not anymore. I had to put this out there and show everyone what they do beyond just selling homes. You will be amazed at how they go that extra mile to help their clients, especially when competition is heavy. Nadene and Kristina have a good eye for what attracts the public market and with their vision in mind, they can create a “sellable property”.

Here are some before & after pictures of properties that Nadene & Kristina had staged. (Sorry for the quality, these are all the pictures I had). These are recent photographs so you can only imagine what they have done in the past. Nadene & Kristina purchased a 12ft Cube Van for assisting clients with both staging & moving, which has become one of their best investments yet.

Take a look and remember, if you are looking to sell your home – give these ladies a call. They are unbelievable. You’d never know they both have 2 year old’s at home. There life is this business, and they put their heart & soul into everything they do!

Check it out! (Pictures are included as the OLD photo first, 2nd is the NEW photo).

Port Credit is located at the mouth of the Credit River on the north shore of Lake Ontario, within the south-central area of the city of Mississauga.

In the past, the community of Port Credit was known as a trending post where people traded or bought goods on credit. The harbor at the mouth of the Credit River was also used as a fishing port and a regional trading centre for grain and other agricultural products.

Port Credit quickly became a thriving harbor community and it acquired the status of a town in 1961. During that period, the town developed into an industrial centre with several factories that provided employment for its residents and achieved a great success.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Port Credit became a getaway for all businessmen, travelers and people who simply wanted to leave the city of Toronto during the summer. From that moment on, the town of Port Credit has been visited my millions of people, some came for business and stayed, and other came just to witness the marvelous landscape that the town has to offer.

One of the most famous symbols of this town is the lighthouse – the original lighthouse in Port Credit was put to use from 1882 until 1918, but was destroyed by a great fire in 1936. A replica of Port Credit’s lighthouse was constructed by the Lions Club of Credit Valley and it is now the home of the local BIA and Tourist Bureau. It also serves as the major logo of the town and many local organizations as well as a an orientation spot for all tourists.

There are all kinds of shops and stores in Port Credit. You don’t have to go anywhere else, everything you need you can find at the centre of Port Credit. Also, the town has several restaurants and pubs that offer all kinds of beer and wine.

The town of Port Credit really comes to its own in summer. Summer days in this place are a real pleasure for the soul. Early birds have a great chance to witness a truly magnificent sunrise – at 5 a.m., the sky has a pink shade and at that point the town awakes – you can notice the swans and ducks in the river and the fishing boats heading out, and the air is a true refreshment – this is an experience that you should feel at least once in your life.

The summer days are always enjoyed to the fullest in this place, people have an opportunity to be part of the numerous events and festivals such as the Mississauga Marathon, the Mississauga Waterfront Festival that takes place in the middle of June and starts with a carnival and continues with music concerts, fun events for kids and markets stalls. Also, here is the Paint the Town Red Canada Day Celebration and Parade, Port Credit Outdoor Art Show, Port Credit’s Buskerfest and the Tim Horton’s Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival.

Port Credit’s Saddington Park is the most popular place for picnics, barbecues, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, boot camp fitness classes and much more.

All fun starts at Port Credit.

The famous dome at Wasaga’s main beach was taken down last Friday.

The dome was always used as a temporary solution to fill the empty area left after the great fire at Main Street in 2007. However, it never managed to become the entertainment centre that was supposed to be.

The story about the dome is known to all: the Levy brothers made a deal with the Town of Wasaga Beach and the dome was placed on a town land in exchange for parking space on the lot next door where the fire had destroyed several buildings.

At the beginning, the dome was approved for 3 years but the lease was extended when the Levy brothers bankrupted in 2010 and Kick Vidinovski foreclosed on the property.

The dome’s structure was partly destroyed by heavy winds in February 2011 and it was never renewed. It also stayed vacant for most of the summer.

The new owners said that they have always planned to take down the dome, because they didn’t consider it a permanent solution to the Wasaga beachfront.

Barrie MP Patrick Brown started promoting the government’s new program – New Horizons for Seniors, and is now inviting organizations that work with senior citizens to apply for this funding and become a part of this great project.

The program was launched on May 8th and currently, it’s offering grants up to $25,000 per year for all community-based projects that promote volunteering, mentoring, expanding awareness of elder abuse, social participating and capital assistance.

Patrick Brown said that they are aware of how important is to provide meaningful programs and activities that include senior citizens, which is only one more way that we can help support organizations on their way to promoting and supporting the quality of life of Canadian senior citizens.

The program is designed to help seniors put their experience into practice by volunteering and mentorship. Investing in such community projects improves both the quality of life for Canadian seniors and their neighborhoods.
